2011/12 NBA Schedule Announced
The two teams with the best conference records will open up the season on November 1st (fingers crossed) when the Dallas Mavericks host the Chicago Bulls. This should be when the Mavs players are presented with their championship winning rings. Later that evening, Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers host Kevin Durant’s Oklahoma City Thunder. What a great start to the season, it COULD be.
The following night, LeBron James and the Miami Heat begin their season in New York against the Knicks. Although, at this point those games are highly unlikely to go ahead, a more realistic date for NBA action is December 8th. That will be the day the Lakers play the Heat.
Christmas Day is great. Sure, everyone loves spending time with the family, opening presents and eating Turkey. But there is nothing better than watching Basketball while having a few bottles of Coors. The Knicks and Celtics kick off the day’s action and a rematch of the NBA Finals, Mavs versus Heat will close it out.
Without doubt, my favourite regular season day is Dr Martin Luther King Jr Day on January 16th. On this day in 2012, we have a full schedule of games including four televised contests. 12 hours of non stop basketball begins with the Bulls as they visit the home of the Civil Rights Museum to play the Memphis Grizzles. The Atlanta Hawks host the Toronto Raptors in the days second televised game. The evening double header is (hopefully) going to be a classic night of basketball. The Celtics and the Thunder square off before Dirk and the Mavs visit the Staples Center to take on the Lakers.
Lockout pending, Dwight Howard and the Orlando Magic are going to have a busy second half to the season when first their year old Amway Center hosts the All Star weekend, scheduled for February 24th to 26th. Also, NBA fans in London need to pencil in the 7th and 8th March, when the Magic and the New Jersey Nets are due to play twice at the O2 Arena.
There will be a whole host of important games in the final month or so of the season including divisional games that are sure to have a big say in the playoff shake up. To find your favourite teams full schedule visit NBA.com.
I just hope the NBA and players can come to an agreement before any games are missed. Dirk v Derrick on November 1st is the perfect way to start the season.
