Bad night on the road for Stingrays
Excel Hull Stingrays stretched their winless streak to seven games following a disappointing 3-1 defeat by Edinburgh Capitals in Murrayfield in the Rapid Solicitors Elite League.
Another slow start saw Stingrays fall behind to a Rene Jarolin marker inside four minutes and Tomas Valecko doubled Capitals’ advantage in the 11th minute.
Matty Davies, with his fourth of the season, pulled a goal back for Stingrays but a Peter Holecko strike with 21 seconds of the first period left proved the final score.
Stingrays will now look to get back to winning ways when Fife Flyers visit Hull Arena in the Elite League tomorrow night.
Player-coach Sylvain Cloutier, back in the line-up in place of defenceman Dmitry Rodin, said: “It is so frustrating.
“We talked before the game about keeping everything out of the middle but then we had two turnovers and it cost us two goals.
“It is driving me crazy that we can play so well defensively against Belfast, Nottingham and Sheffield and then go and play like that.
“Give Edinburgh credit, they played well. They are not a walk-over team. We are professionals and there is something wrong if you are not ready to play and go to work.
“We need to beat Fife now. It is a Game Seven for us and we will see who wants it more.”
