Flinder Boyd says goodbye to the BBL

Flinder Boyd’s departure is a decision which will come as a surprise to many who have grown accustomed to watching the GB guard enter a game and dictate the flow in an almost effortless fashion. Head Coach Paternostro though, has seen another former Riders guard, John Griffin, depart under similar circumstances and understands that there is a life outside of basketball:

“I’ve been around long enough to know that things can change in an instant. Circumstances outside of basketball take precedence and both of them (Griffin and Flinder) are addressing them now but they would both be welcome if they wanted to come back.”

Losing Boyd is a blow softened by the signing of Yorrick Williams, a BBL veteran with the ability to affect a game in multiple ways, but the impact of losing the unassuming point man could be felt in a greater way then just on the floor as the younger players on the squad, particularly first year BBL guard Cameron Rundles, will be missing their mentor.

Paternostro, although understandably downhearted at the loss of Flinder, points towards his team’s strengths to gain encouragement:

“Our core players are still the same here,” said Paternostro. “We have a talented group that has proven over the last few months that we can make an impact in this league (and) we feel like we still have a very good chance to win.” “
