Core player Defoe returns to Newcastle Eagles
The Newcastle Eagles have re-signed Darius Defoe for the 2012/13 season making him the fourth player from the quadruple winning team to return.
He joins Charles Smith, reigning MVP Joe Chapman and player/coach Fab Flournoy in forming the core of the Newcastle Eagles looking to win honours in the coming campaign.
As reported on this site in mid-July, Player/Coach Flournoy had been in talks with the 6’7 London-born ‘for a couple of weeks’ with the final details of the contract being confirmed and Defoe able to put pen to paper recently.
Defoe, who is a five-time BBL Championship winner, was one of the top rebounders last season (avg 8.02rpg) as well as solid offensive threat, averaging around 13 points a night*.
