Nate Robinson signs for Chicago

Three-time NBA dunk-contest champion Nate Robinson signed a one–year deal with the Chicago Bulls on Tuesday.

The former first-round pick in the 2005 NBA Draft has been brought in as cover at the lead guard role while Derrick Rose recovers from a torn ACL injury he suffered in Game 1 of the playoff first-round series against Philadelphia.

With Rose expected to be unavailable until March, Robinson is likely to share the point-guard position with the Bulls’ recently acquired guard Kirk Hinrich.

The 5-foot-9 point-guard regained his form last season with the Golden State Warriors averaging 11.2 pts, 1.2 stls and a career-high 4.5 asts after enduring a frustrating 2010-11 season with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Robinson has signed for the veteran’s minimum of $1.2 million for next season and will add energy and a scoring touch at the point-guard role, although his consistency is an area that is continually questioned.

He will be wearing the number two jersey and with the Bulls’ history of that tee including Eddy Curry, Khalid El-Amin and Jannero Pargo, they will be hoping for a greater return this time around.

The 28-year-old is now with his fifth NBA team and after stops in New York, Oakland, Boston and Oklahoma and Robinson will be desperate to add a championship to his resume.
