Glasgow’s Green Machine trades Scotland for Luxembourg
American guard Mychal Green has left the BBL after just one season writes Callum Carson, Glasgow Rocks beat writer, opting instead to sign for A.S. Soleuvre of the DiekirchLeague, the top pro league in Luxembourg. His new team finished 8th last season with a 12-12 record.
The move may come as a surprise given that the popular 29-year-old had publicly stated his desire to remain in Glasgow for the 2012/2013 season at the back end of last season.
Despite a year in which he fought several injuries, the Ohioan was named team MVP and took the club on his shoulders following the injury to his fellow guard E.J. Harrison in early November. He led the team with a 17.5 PPG, which was actually the lowest figure of his five year pro-career that has previously included spells in New Zealand and Germany.
Glasgow are set to move into the new Commonwealth Arena this season and coach Sterling Davis has been busy in the off-season, agreeing to deals to bring back three members of the 2011/2012 Rocks roster.
Gareth Murray has signed a two year deal, while Andrew Wedemire and E.J. Harrison have signed on for a further year.
The Rocks will be hosting their annual Open Trials on 18th August where Davis will be hoping to unearth some future stars.
