Heat looking to add a Centre, name their guy

Surrey Heat Coach Creon Raftopoulos, fresh off of a resounding 106-45 victory over the Mersey Tigers in their opening BBL fixture, indicated that although happy with his team, adding some size to the front court is still a priority.

Earlier in the off-season, the Heat picked up Slovakian-born Peter Simek, who measures in at 6’9, to fill the centre spot. But with Simek providing the only legitimate option at that position, Raftopoulos is looking elsewhere for support.

“Sometimes you can have too many players and unsettle the team, the chemistry and guys start arguing with each other,” warned Raftopoulos when talking about the possibility of adding new faces to his side. “Where we are right now, we won’t try and do anything drastic until we’ve played more games (but) I could do with one more big guy.”

Raftopoulos told ukamericansportsfans.com how his search for players this off-season has been frustrated by players pricing themselves out of a move to the Heat with unreasonable wage demands.

Regardless of those obstacles, the Heat coach has his eye on one British big man who has experience of playing in the BBL.

“I’m a big fan of Liam Potter, (formerly of the Leicester Riders). A lot of people will be looking at him but maybe we can make something happen sooner than later to get a guy of his size because I think he’ll fit in well. I just really want good chemistry this year.”

As recently as last week, the UCP Marjon Plymouth Raiders were still believed to be interested in signing 26 year old Potter who has completed a two week trial at the South Coast club.
