Riders Coach Paternostro on verge of win number 100
The visit of the Cheshire Jets to Loughborough University on Saturday not only represents a chance for the Jelson Homes DMU Leicester Riders to win their second straight game of the new season, it also gives Riders fifth-year Head Coach, Rob Paternostro, an opportunity to notch win number 100 during his reign at the Leicester club.
Paternostro, who was installed as Head Coach in 2009, got off to a winning start in his career by beating the London Capitals 73-56. And over the following four seasons and a bit seasons, a further 98 victories followed, leaving win number 100 a possibility as the Riders face the Jets in Leicester.
Paternostro, although proud of the impending achievement, is reluctant to stand alone in the spotlight, choosing instead to share it with those he has worked with along the way.
“When I first got here, it was a challenging job and I knew that the job for us was to be as consistent as possible and put some good players on the floor,” said Paternostro. “Looking back now, I feel like we’ve done that and I have to give great thanks to the organisation, to the coaching staff I’ve had here and also to the players. Most coaches will tell you that ‘as a coach, you’re only as good as the players that you have’ and we feel like we have got some fantastic players and fantastic people.”
