The Big Show

What better subject to kick-off this section than the Big Show this coming Sunday in Texas. So just how do we take in the greatest show on Earth this 2011? Is John Barnes on again?

I can answer that straight away with a firm no, but the choice is good this Super Bowl Sunday. Many of us will have been watching games on Sky, and listening to games on 5Live Sports Extra and both those options will continue as expected for the climax to the NFL season.

The BBC will be hosting their own coverage of the main event starting at five to eleven. Jake Humphrey of F1 fame is in the presenters chair again. Jake is joined by Mike Carlson and former Giant Tiki Barber. But by 10:55pm when the BBC coverage starts, most of us are settled in with our provider of choice as we have been waiting all day to sample the atmosphere and get involved.

Sky kick-off their coverage at the home of the Cowboys at 10pm, and Kevin Cadle will continue his tradition of seeming like he really can’t be arsed and then surprising us with a great bit of knowledge just when you think he may have nodded off. Nick Halling’s Steelers are back in the big one for their third appearance in six years. We have yet to see him disappointed as his beloved Pittsburgh have done the business when it matters on both of those previous occassions.

5Live Sports Extra are also on air from 10pm for this the 45th Super Bowl. You can join fellow listeners over on their Facebook page. Darren Fletcher who in my opinion is great on 5Live (and has the best job) will team up with Neil Reynolds again for their own take on what goes down in Arlington. It isn’t confirmed whether Greg Brady is in tow, but if he is, the sometimes Fighting Talk contestant is a great listen and very knowledgeable – Go Leafs!

There is no coverage of the game on the ITV or Channel Five networks this year.
