BBL Betting and previews: Friday 21st December
Tonight could well see the end of the world, we haven’t seen it yet so far today so fingers crossed we’re still here by 00:01am tomorrow. However, tonight we also see three BBL Championship fixtures, and I’m here to preview and tip a few cheeky bets along the way.
All tonight’s games tip off at 7:30pm, so let’s take a peek.
Quickly, let’s look over Mersey vs Plymouth.
Former London Lions’ Phil Wait has now been integrated into the Tigers team, who will be looking for victory at the fifteenth (sixteenth all season) attempt, and with Jeremy Bell having flown back to the USA for ‘personal reasons’, this may just allow for some more minutes throughout the team, and shouldn’t really trouble Raiders too much.
One worry for me is that this could potentially be horrifying for Mersey, as this is one of the strongest sides they have faced, and once more the bookmakers are reluctant to over give odds for Plymouth to win. Who can blame them to a degree? Best price for a Raiders win is on the exchanges at 1/25 with Betfair, but it goes right out to 1/200 with Coral. If you want a punt for nothing Coral goes 12/1 for a Tigers win.
However, the value again comes in the point spread (average Tigers loss this year is by 32.8 points) – to the extent that I found 19/20 this morning with 188Bet on Plymouth (-26 handicap), but even that has been cut short. Until a certain Mr Hills decided to go crazy…
Plymouth win (-36.5pts) – 10/3 @ William Hill
That’s New Years drinks sorted if I’m honest – and for those of you who haven’t bet yet with Hills, well worth taking a bonus on this bet.
Next up we see Manchester visit Newcastle Eagles, where the bookies again are not making this nice reading for the visitors, but after so many tight scores for Giants of late, could we yet see this one be a close call? I highly doubt it, with the experience of Newcastle’s roster, and the aim to remain fully in control at the top of the table with another win before Christmas, it looks like a sewn up deal, so stick with an easy almost evens point spread again.
Newcastle win (-15.5pts) – 17/20 @ William Hill
Last but not least, London Lions welcome Glasgow Rocks, in what is likely to be the closest game of the night.
A three-win streak for Lions was halted last week by Eagles, whilst Glasgow got back on positive terms after their resounding victory against Tigers. Glasgow have games in hand, and a win tonight gives them the all-important head-to-head, however Rocks are having back-to-back games on the road this weekend – an even tougher clash against Worcester Wolves comes tomorrow! For me, it is vital Rocks pick up this away win and prove themselves somewhat without needing Kieron Achara, which for many is where they feel they have lacked since his departure, so one win at least is what they will be hoping to achieve.
Glasgow win – 6/4 @ Bet365
(NB – If you did want to bet on the end of the world, William Hill actually gave a man odds of 909,000/1 that it would happen today. Shame he wouldn’t be able to collect his winnings if it happened!)
