BBL Betting: Sunday 6th January

Looks as though my streak has ended somewhat – alas, we continue on!

I have found some BBL Trophy betting odds – but I wouldn’t gamble with them, very unsure where I stand on how trusting a site it is, Lithuanian based be not a widespread positive opinion on the message boards about it, but let’s start off with what is being billed as the “Do-or-die” fixture in the BBL Trophy – Worthing Thunder playing host to Mersey Tigers.

Worthing last night picked up their first league victory of the season, to go with their one EBL trophy win and four National Cup successes. This is make or break for Mersey Tigers, and they have to progress.

Of course, the aim in professional sport is to win, forget all the analogies of “It is the taking part that counts”, and none more so than in knockout competitions such as the BBL Trophy.

It seems Thunder tied together everything last night and coach Daniel Hildreth was given the whole 40 minutes he has been searching for – not too dissimilar then to what his counterpart Tony Walsh will be hoping for come 5pm.

The upshot is that Worthing are going back-to-back, so the tell-tale signs of tiredness will show if Mersey go hard to begin with; but can that be sustained better than it was against Giants last Friday night?

The bookie I found going on this was giving out 6/4 for a Worthing win or 1/2 for a Tigers victory. 14s on the draw and seeing overtime, but again, I won’t be putting out where this bookmaker is until I find some definite trustworthy recommendation!

This site is also giving 17/4 for a Reading Rockets win over Surrey Heat, who are 3/20 themselves.

I suppose fair odds, but let’s stick to what we knows!

Moving on to the BBL Championship though, and first up sees a side who pushed Heat last night somewhat in the first half, Durham Wildcats, at home taking on Cheshire Phoenix.

We see a depleted side head north from Cheshire with the departures of Mr Brandreth and Mr Gillard, and some are concerned that such a short squad may end up being more a hindrance than a help at the now fan-owned club.

The rest have helped Cheshire, but the way in which Durham have kept up a good rhythm and not too bad results of later, you’d be hard pushed to ignore the value BetVictor are offering.

Following up is the biggest trip endured of any two BBL teams as Plymouth take the high road to bonnie Scotland to face Glasgow Rocks.

Fresh from their own BBL Trophy victory, Rocks are sniffing around that fourth spot in the league, and will definitely want to make it three wins in a row as they head into a run of games that would give them a very secure foothold for the play-offs.

Plymouth, who will be without Jeremy Bell and also Michael Ojo with an eye injury, now only have the BBL Championship and play-offs to focus on, and losses to their roster like that against sides around them in the league will clearly not help their efforts, and so there’s a little cheeky one to be had here with the home side…

Admittedly not huge odds here today, but something to tickle the taste buds! And remember – you gamble at your own discretion, and most importantly, gamble responsibly!
