Brown back in town for London Lions
London Lions confirmed this afternoon the return of point guard Rod Brown on a one-year deal, and is the first player confirmed for Vince Macaulay’s side as they look forward to life playing out of the Copper Box in Queen Elizabeth Park.
6ft 1in Brown was seen as the key in helping secure Lions a play-off spot at the end of the 2012-13 BBL regular season, after a deadline day move to the London side following a stint in the jersey of Plymouth Raiders.
Speaking about completing the signature of Brown, who graduated from Western Michigan University in 2000, Head Coach Macaulay said: “I’m just so excited, we have a great opportunity at the Queen Elizabeth Park and with these great challenges we need capable men, Rod was a great addition to us last season and he’s just as excited as I am about the move, his veteran leadership was key and will be required this season as we try to compete at the top of the league table, we had a job on our hands to retain his services as he was in great demand hear and overseas but the potential here is the best in British basketball and I think Rod saw that.”
Brown claimed 15 points and 4.5 assists during his time in the Lions’ colours earlier in 2013, which was one significant reason why Macaulay wanted the point guard signed and sealed: “In building this year’s team Rod was our first name down and all at the club are delighted to have been able to bring him back but this is only the start of assembling an exciting team for London.”
Other exciting news for fans down South will be that season ticket news is also due to be released, together with the opportunity for fans to attend ‘Seat Selection Sunday’ at the Copper Box to secure the best seats in the house before the season gets underway.
