Belfast mayor presents Mayor Bloomberg with Giants jersey
As the G8 took place in Enniskillen, Co. Fermanagh, across the Atlantic Ocean Belfast’s Lord Mayor presented New York’s Mayor Michael Bloomberg with a Giants’ game shirt.
“We think that every city needs an Irish mayor. And New York has had a series of wonderful mayors in the past. Now if New York had an Irish-American mayor again…!” Lord Mayor Máirtin Ó Muilleoir made this comment to ‘Politicker’ and posed for photographs with Mayor Michael Bloomberg and City Council Speaker Christine Quinn.
“The generosity of Irish Americans, which is wonderful for us back in Ireland and also the ability of the Irish to make connections, to win people over – those are great qualities in a mayor. So we’re fairly hopeful that we will have an Irish-American mayor soon,” he added speaking in a thick Irish brogue.
Mr. Ó Muilleoir spent the morning at Gracie Mansion, where he chatted with the mayor and speaker. When they finished, Mr. Ó Muilleoir presented Mayor Bloomberg with a Belfast Giants hockey jersey with the name “Bloomberg” and number “1.”
Was this yet another cunning plan to help support the idea in entertaining the New York Rangers coming to Belfast for another preseason NHL game in the Odyssey Arena we ponder?
