There are an increasing number of UK fan group twitter handles and great UK fan sites which you can find links to on our twitter list here.
To continue to help build the UK American Sports Fans community we wanted to help promote these fan groups and have invited them to write a topical piece about their team to introduce them to the wider community.
First up is Ross Dalton from the twitter handle @NYJetsFansUK – thanks to Ross for kicking off the feature and we hope you enjoy reading what the UK’s football, baseball, hockey and basketball fans have to say here in The FansOwn feature. Keep checking back to read more from the fans. You can also check out more UK fans over on our Fan Wall. If you want to be up on the fan wall, tweet us your pic to @uk_sportsfans. Now…Go Jets!
In a week that saw many things happen for the New York Jets, the biggest thing may well be the signing of Dee Milliner.
Milliner the first round draft pick out of Alabama was questionable to start training camp anyway, this just added to the pressure that Milliner has to face in his rookie season especially with the ghost of Darrelle Revis hanging over him; Jets fans won’t forget Revis Island easily. I believe that Milliner is a better all-round back than Revis, but he won’t be anything like the All-Pro corner in his first couple of years so don’t expect too much from him this year.
A surprise has been the change of opinion on who will win the Jets quarterback battle. At the beginning of the mini-camps the general consensus was that Mark Sanchez would win out due to his experience and his history with the Jets. However, things seem to be changing as many of the NFL.com analysts are suggesting that Smith might beat out his senior rival in Sanchez due to his exceptional arm strength and his surprisingly strong leadership within the Jets’ offense. I have had my finger over Smith since the draft saying that he is my pick for the starting position for the Jets this season. Will he succeed? We will have to see but with everything Brian Baldinger said at camp this week (other than conditioning issues) then I can’t see why not.
The final somewhat surprising thing to come out of this week for the Jets are the comments from Quinton Coples about the Jets D-Line being the best in the NFL. I’m not sure whether I fully agree with him. Most athletic? Most definitely. Best in the NFL? Maybe. The skill level they have is outstanding. In the past three drafts the Jets have selected D-linemen in the first round (Mohammed Wilkerson, Quinton Coples and Sheldon Richardson). With the addition of Antonio Garay in Free Agency the Jets can now add more to their surprise packages by running four man fronts as well as their standard three man fronts especially since Coples is now a hybrid player who plays OLB and DE. I believe that they could well be the best in the NFL if they play with 100% commitment every down but the question is will Garay stay healthy as he has a history of injury? If he can they will be a dominating force in the league.
Thanks again to Ross at @NYJetsFansUK
