Probable NFL Milestones for 2013: Defense and Special Teams
Ed Reed, now of the Houston Texans is currently tied with Everson Walls (3) in having led the league in interceptions, he will look to do so again and have the record of four all to himself. He needs 8 picks to pass Dick LaBeau (62), Dave Brown, Darren Sharper, Ronnie Lott (63), Ken Riley 965) and Dick “Night Train” Lane (68) for 4th place, he stands on 61.
Charles Woodson, back with the Oakland Raiders needs to return two interceptions for touchdowns to go past Rod Woodson (11) for most all-time.
Minnesota Vikings Jared Allen has led league twice in sacks, and will become first to lead in 3 if he does so in 2013.
DeMarcus Ware is the man quarterbacks fear for the Dallas Cowboys and he is also chasing the above record, but also needs to get to the QB 10 times to join John Randle (8) and Reggie White (9) as the only players with 10 sacks in 8 consecutive years.
Chicago Bears speedster Devin Hester needs two kick returns for scores to top that category, he is currently behind Deion Sanders (19). Hester has returned 12 punts, 5 kickoffs ,and one missed field goal.
Joshua Cribbs of Oakland is tied with Leon Washington (8) for most kickoff returns in NFL history, one more to have the record outright. If he gets 236 kick return yards he will go past Dante Hall (10,136) and Mel Gray (10,250) for 3rd place in all-time return yardage.
The New England Patriots Leon Washington will clearly be out to keep the above record of 8 that Cribbs intact.
Adam Vinatieri the placekicker for the Indianapolis Colts needs 138 points to pass John Kasay (1,970), Jason Elam (1,983), George Blanda (2,002) and Matt Stover (2,004) for 5th place all time. If he gets 100 points he will join Elam as the only players to score that much in 16 different seasons.
David Akers, now a Detroit Lion needs to convert a field goal in each of his next six games to surpass Matt Stover (38) for most consecutive games with a field goal in NFL history.
