BBL ties up British Eurosport as new official broadcast partner

The British Basketball League (BBL) have made the final week ahead of the new campaign start with exciting news that British Eurosport will be the Official Broadcast Partner for the 2013/14 season.

The broadcaster will hold the UK rights to coverage of Britain’s top tier basketball league exclusively in 26 weekly shows, all on British Eurosport in full glorious high definition.

First up on the channel, starting November 9th at midday, will be action from the previous week’s game between Worcester Wolves and Plymouth University Raiders.

Commercial Director of the BBL, David Leyden Dunbar, spoke of the new deal for the upcoming season by saying: “Our move to British Eurosport is about creating an appointment to view for the British Basketball audience. Moving to more regular scheduling throughout the season I’ve no doubt that we’ll be able to translate a surge of interest in the sport, reflected in our participation numbers, into a passionate following for the new weekly show.

“Accessibility also played a major role in the decision making process and with British Eurosport available on both Sky, Virgin and BT’s new platform we’re confident that we can build our audience through the season.”

For British Eurosport, it now adds to its stable of sporting acquisitions over the summer, more top level sport, and David Kerr, Managing Director of the broadcaster, couldn’t be happier: “We are very pleased to have secured the rights to the British Basketball League, which adds to our recent announcement of NFL Monday Night Football and the UEFA Youth League rights amongst others. We look forward to bringing the very best domestic basketball action to fans in the UK.”

Dan Routledge will front the coverage alongside guest co-commentators each week, as he will be doing for BBL TV, the brand new platform that will see 30 live BBL games streamed to devices. There is still time to sign up for the service for just £29.99, but will increase to £49.99 on October 18th – visit www.bbl.org.uk for more details.
