BBL Game Day Summary: Surrey United 60 Worcester Wolves 117
United They Fall
Surrey United 60 (14, 26. 43) Worcester Wolves 117 (32, 61, 93)
Both the Worcester Wolves and Surrey United donned their kits for the first time this season, as they worked to set the tone for the season.
Worcester Wolves jumped out of the blocks to a quick 6-0 lead but, following a foul from Ferenc, United soon got on the score sheet in the form of a Joel Henry 3 pointer.
After some back and forth play, the teams were levelled at 12-12. Caylin Raftopoulos was soon on court, and welcomed by Worcester and Surrey supporters.
Worcester then showed what the BBL is all about, and closed the quarter on a 20-2 run, 32-14.
Wolves continued their high performance play into the second, with little in response from United, other than substitutions – another foul from Ferenc saw him limited – as Worcester ran out to a 50-20 lead. The rest of the quarter saw some resilience with the half-time score standing at 56-24.
The second half had the same dominant Worcester performance. For every few points that Surrey could manage, Worcester had an answer – and more – with the third quarter ending at 93-43, Worcester’s favour.
The fourth matched the former Surrey team’s winning margin against Mersey Tigers, 106-45. Though Surrey worked to reduce the deficit in the final minutes of the game on a 15-11 (their second positive run since their 13-10 run at the end of the third), as Worcester gave their bench playing time during the fourth.
Surrey were led by Ignas Sijanas who had 18 points, and Elvisi Dusha, 9.
Worcester saw multiple players in double figures, with Will Creekmore improving on his 27 points stat line in the third quarter.
