Myers leaves Cheshire Phoenix by mutual consent
Cheshire Phoenix announced this afternoon that BBL veteran Shawn Myers has left the side by mutual consent.
The Trinidadian forward met with Phoenix management this week and both parties agreed that it was right that they part ways this season.
The 44-year-old’s professional career stretches back to 1997, with the last twelve years spent playing in the BBL, having made his debut with the Newcastle Eagles in September 2001. But with the
Phoenix’s slow start to the season and the resulting alterations made by head coach John Lavery, in trying to find the right balance on court, together with Myers’ commitments and projects outside of the franchise, have all played a part in the decision.
“Shawn has been a great servant to this club, one of the all-time greats,” said Lavery. “It is a huge disappointment to have to make this announcement.
“But everyone on the playing side of the club has been taking a long hard look at the way we have started the season and after discussing it with Shawn, we all feel this is the right decision.”
