Tendler’s sticking around

Excel Hull Stingrays are delighted to announce Jereme Tendler has agreed to return for the 2011/12 Elite League campaign. Player-coach Sylvain Cloutier, who has also committed for next season, said: “It is a big signing for the club. “Jereme is one of the best goal scorers in the Elite League and he will help us move forward and build on what we have achieved this year.

Clotier added, “I am extremely happy to have him back next year. I want to build the team around him and give him a supporting cast. He scores goals but he gives the team more than that. He works really hard, is a great penalty killer and has a solid all-round game. Jereme has had a phenomenal season for us and his efforts quite rightly have been recognised by his nomination for the newcomer award.

This announcement will excite the Ray’s fans as to what lies ahead and the Hull boss continued, “He was happy to come back. He was grateful to me for giving him the chance to come here and it shows he is loyal to me, loyal to the club and loyal to the fans. He has shown his commitment to Hull and it proves what a great place Hull is to play hockey. I believed in him when I traded for him in Corpus Christi and believed in him when I brought him to Hull so we have a special relationship and we both want to drive this club forward.”

Prior to joining Stingrays, Tendler had two professional seasons in Corpus Christi where he posted 47 points in 81 regular-season and play-off games. The 6ft 2in forward from Viceroy, Saskatchewan, turned pro after completing a stellar four-year career at American International College. He led AIC in scoring twice in his career (2005/06 and 2006/07), and served as an assistant captain during his senior season. Over his four seasons at AIC, Tendler compiled 49 goals, 38 assists, 87 points and 170 penalty minutes in 126 games.

Before his collegiate career, Tendler had two stand-out seasons for the Weyburn Red Wings from 2002 to 2004, where he racked up 51 goals and 51 assists for 102 points in 111 games. In his last season with Weyburn in 2003/04, Tendler tied for the team lead with 61 points (26 goals and 35 assists) and helped propel them to a division title.
