Stingrays lose out again to Devils

Excel Hull Stingrays produced another battling display as they went down 4-2 to Cardiff Devils in the Challenge Cup Saturday night.

Following a goalless first period, Devils took the lead in the 22nd minute through Brad Voth and doubled their advantage with four minutes of the second period left thanks to Scott Dobben.

Dmitry Rodin pulled a goal back for Stingrays four minutes into the final period but a short-handed marker from Dobben restored Devils’ two-goal cushion.

Ben Davies stretched Devils’ lead before Jereme Tendler, on a five-on-three powerplay, got Stingrays’ second 70 seconds later.

It was a sixth successive loss for Stingrays but player-coach Sylvain Cloutier took plenty of positives from the performance.

He said: “We played well, it was the best we have played in Cardiff since I have been here.

“We worked hard all the game and pushed them all the way. But give Cardiff credit, they found a way to win.”

Stingrays take on Fife Flyers at Hull Arena in the Rapid Solicitors Elite League on Sunday September 26 (6pm face-off). Tickets can be purchased by ringing the Hull Arena Box Office on 01482 325252.
