Rodin relieved to get the two points

Estonia international Dmitry Rodin admitted Excel Hull Stingrays’ 3-2 home win over Fife Flyers after penalty shots was a huge two points for the team.

Following six successive defeats, Stingrays registered their first victory in the Rapid Solicitors Elite League courtesy of Rodin’s decisive shot in the third round of the shoot-out at Hull Arena.

Jereme Tendler (powerplay) and Rodin had twice put Stingrays ahead only for Steven Gunn and Todd Dutiaume (powerplay) to peg them back.

However, man-of-the-match Rodin said: “I am just glad we won. It was a big victory for us, we needed those two points.

“The ice was so bad [in the shoot-out]. The first one I made the move and the puck jumped on me, the second one was a high shot and the third one I went through the five-hole.

“It was a tough game but we won and are pretty happy. But we need to step it up a bit.

“We had lots of chances to score and the two goals they scored against us, we gave them. We have to play better defensively and everything will be fine.

“All the guys were a bit down after the losses but it was a huge win and hopefully now we can go on from here.”
