Chamberlain’s a happy Stingray

Rookie Excel Hull Stingrays forward Bobby Chamberlain admits he is having the time of his life playing in the Rapid Solicitors Elite League.

The 16-year-old has taken his chance to secure a regular shift following injuries to fellow British forwards Jack Watkins and Ryan Lake. Chamberlain was named man of the match in Stingrays’ 3-2 overtime loss at home to Coventry Blaze on September 18 and has since continued to impress on a line alongside Jason Silverthorn and Derek Campbell.

He said: “It’s great playing in the Elite League, especially coming from Hull as the fans get behind you a lot. I am really enjoying it and the boys are helping me out a lot.

“Playing with Silver and Soupy is great, they are two of the top players in the league and they are really helping me out.

“Getting the man of the match as a 16-year-old kid in the Elite League was great. With Jack and Laker being injured, I have played a lot more but hopefully they will be back soon.”

Stingrays are now preparing to take on Sheffield Steelers and Nottingham Panthers this weekend, games which Chamberlain is relishing. He added: “They are great weekends. They are the games I used to enjoy most as a kid. They are big rivalries and we will try to get points off the big teams.

“Both have solid teams but we have competed with them before. We will take some points off them this season.”
