Tigers bolster their ranks

The Mersey Tigers have today announced the signing of six players to their roster.

The Tigers guard department will be led by up and coming GB Guard Devan Bailey. The 6’2″ 22 year old, a product of the Manchester Magic Junior programme, joins the Tigers following completion of his college career at Central Connecticut State University.

Joining Bailey in Tigers’ backcourt will be 29 year old Dutch passport holder, Matthew Otten. The 6’5″ guard played in the BBL with the Cheshire Jets back in the 2007-8, before playing the last two seasons in the Dutch League.

The Tigers will have no shortage of experience in the front court with the addition of BBL veteran Calvin Davis. The move sees a return to the Tigers for the prolific 6’8″ forward who has also played eight seasons just down the road with the Jets in a BBL career that stems back to 2001.

Rising star Myles Hesson joins the Tigers front line following an injury plagued debut BBL season last term. The 21 year old 6’5″ forward started his debut BBL season in explosive form before an injury cruelly prevented him from playing the majority of the of the season.

Another exciting addition to the front line will be 25 year old Canadian Kris Douse (6’6″). Douse comes to the Tigers following completion of a successful college career at Point Park University in the USA.

Former Tigers junior James Griffiths also returns to the club.

Head Coach Tony Garbelotto will lead his new look team into action twice this weekend, commencing their campaign with a home game against One Health Sharks Sheffield on Friday night (7.30pm at Knowsley Leisure and Culture Park – Tickets available on the door) before visiting the Cheshire Jets on Sunday (5.30pm @ Northgate Arena).
