Wildcats storm Lightning in victory comeback

Last Sunday night the Swindon Wildcats took an important two point victory on the road as they defeated an opposing MK Lightning side. Although falling to the Lightning the previous evening, the Wildcats did well to not only respond but also perform against a tough opposition.

It was not all Swindon smiles as the match opened, with MK opening as they did the previous night with another early goal. Only 40 seconds into the game and the home sides’ Nick Poole put his team ahead as a quick start led to his shot passing the ‘Cat netminder.
Before long the lead was then doubled as the Lightning hit again, this time through Jamieson as his blue line slapshot flew into the back of net once more.

Despite down by a couple the Wildcats continued to push forward with focus and within a minute that replying goal was scored. A great link between Swindon forwards alike led to Nick Watt wristing in a shot and with it, closing down the deficit to within one.

A period break did little to stop the Wildcat momentum as Swindon then found another just 47 seconds after the opening period puck drop. Import Jonas Höög was seen finishing on a play after linking well with defenseman Shane Moore to tie the scores. A great switch of momentum quickly led to the ‘Cats then taking the lead, as newly signed Aaron Nell then scored a rapid third in front of net to finish on a play with fellow forwards Jaroslav Cesky and Michal Pinc.

An end of period break saw the travelling side now head off with the lead, as a single goal separated two highly competitive and focused sides.

A third period gave much the same in terms of action however with the Wildcats holding well at the back and pressuring on the forecheck, Swindon were able to hold out throughout and defend even with an extra opposing attacker. The final buzzer sounded and confirmed what was an important two point win on the road for a Swindon side. The victory will be seen as a great response to a previous evening’s loss and a good road win as the streak is now taken to two games against two high performing sides.

The ‘Cats will now move forward to this weekend as they welcome the Guildford Flames to the Link Centre in what will be another action packed fixture.
