Argentina name basketball squad for London
Marcos Mata has claimed the last berth on the Argentinian squad for the London Olympics.
He replaces shooting guard Paolo Quinteros, a survivor of their bronze medal campaign in Beijing. Coach Julio Lamas has erred on the side of experience, many of the side remaining from the Gauchos gold medal triumph in Athens 2004. Veteran San Antonio Spurs shooting guard Manu Ginobili, MVP from that day, represents one of three players currently plying their trade in the NBA, the others being Carlos Delfino of the Milwaukee Bucks and power forward Luis Scola who recently joined the Phoenix Suns from Houston.
A warm-up game versus Spain this weekend will provide a clear indication of where Argentina currently stand prior to the main tournament, where they match up against Tunisia, France, Lithuania, Nigeria and the USA.
Full Squad: Pablo Prigioni, Facundo Campazzo, Manu Ginobili, Carlos Delfino, Andres Nocioni, Federico Kammerichs, Hernan Jasen, Marcos Mata, Luis Scola, Leonardo Gutierrez, Martin Leiva, Juan Gutierrez.
