BBL Players of the week – Week 28

It’s that time of the week again, and just minutes before we get stuck in to the final week of the regular season – here’s our BBL players of the week list from the guys who were there courtside last weekend.

Dave Bell attended Sheffield Sharks v Cheshire Jets

Mike Tuck (Sheffield Sharks) – Yet another double double (22 points 11 rebounds) and the sole shining light in a confused Sheffield performance. The stage was set for fellow big Olu Babalola with 13 first half points, given the shut-down of Jimmy Langhurst, but it was the consistency of Tuck that once again gained the plaudits. Tuck unashamedly sticks to his role and it is a mantra one or two of the Sharks newly-extended ten man roster could live by as they look to overturn a decidedly-shaky run of form.

Adam Brown (Cheshire Jets) – Not the purest of Guards but crucially effective in this playoff battle match-up against the Sharks. Virtually wore Jimmy Langhurst’s shorts on defence and left the Sharks at sixes and sevens with his rangy runs on the offence. Add into the mix some impressive shooting from downtown and you can clearly see why Brown ranks so highly in the BBL stats. Eight assists on the night, Brown breathed life into a Jets side that were all but down and out last week. The top end of the BBL may be all but decided; the bottom end is far from it.

Rob Jeffries watched Cheshire Jets v Glasgow Rocks

Colin O’Reilly (Cheshire Jets) – O’Reilly really rallied rather rightfully…I’ve ran out of “R” words but my lord was he the key to the Jets’ securing a playoff spot.

He was shooting for fun as he took (from my notes – statcast was a bit suspect) 31 points with the majority outside of the arc. He was unstoppable – and infectious, which is the most important quality of a captain I believe, and was determined to get his team over that playoff line.

Also – a fantastic celebration later on for O’Reilly as he allowed Adam Brown to shave him a Mohawk… (photo courtesy of Twitter – you can just make out his hair!)

Damian attended Worcester Wolves v Leicester Riders

Richie Gordon (Worcester Wolves) – As I picked up my player of the year slip to vote my one and two I had Freeman and Gordon in mind but I wasn’t sure which way round. So I kept it to one side in the hope that the game would make my decision. And the big man’s first-half performance in this one had me reaching for my pen (sorry Tommy).Yet again he was the difference maker, going hard early and finding room under the basket for deuce after deuce. Gordon’s contest with Sullivan was fascinating with the former Catamount getting the better of the exchanges to lead the Wolves to a very big win against a very good team. He not only made a run for this week’s player of the week on Saturday night but for me, he put his hand up again to get the nod for MVP.

Sean Porter attended Plymouth Raiders v Worcester Wolves

Michael Ojo (Plymouth Raiders) – Ojo was the recipient of a beautifully ran offence and players who could him the ball. The rookie has one of slickest releases in the league and a tough attitude to boot. On another team he would be a regular 20+ player, the guy is an absolute gunner.
