BBL players of the week – Week 29
The final weekend of the regular season has been and gone and we are less than 24 hours away from the post-season. Here are our BBL players of the week for week 29.
Rob Jeffires attended Cheshire Jets v Sheffield Sharks
Colin O’Reilly (Cheshire Jets) – You can use that name as a verb when talking about basketball.
“That guy just Colin O’Reilly’d you all game. Do you know that? No, you don’t. Because that’s what happens when you get Colin O’Reilly’d…”
A remarkable showing from Cheshire Jets’ captain, bagging himself a triple-double of 17 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. In the past few weeks, he really has been the player that has made all the difference to Cheshire’s charge into the playoffs, none more so than against Sheffield Sharks.
Last week was a shooting masterclass, but this week he brought everything he had into the game.
Kai Williams (Cheshire Jets) – Purely for his awesome scoring and making it count both in the Sheffield game and also the away game to Newcastle a few days previous.
Callum Carson attended Glasgow Rocks v Durham Wildcats
Ralph Bucci (Durham Wildcats) – Despite losing to the Rocks at the Kelvin Hall on Sunday, the veteran guard was the best player on the court, making a series of outstanding passes, while knocking in triple after triple on his way to a team high 19 points. I for one very much hope to see him return to the BBL next season.
Dave Bell attended Sheffield Sharks v Plymouth Raiders
Nate Reinking (One Health Sharks Sheffield) – The news that all GB fans should be awaiting. Nate is alive and well and ready to tear up the Olympics given half a chance. The only Sharks player to put up a competent display in the first half against the Raiders, even in warm-up Reinking was a joy to behold. Three point attempts from all round the arc were the norm, only moving on to a new location once the basket had been found. Add to this some superlative assist work, your reporter is seriously envious of a 38 year old, who belies his advancing years to compete at the highest standards possible. Not that he needs telling but Chris Finch, look no further!
Paul Williams (Plymouth Raiders) – In the week that the BBL sought their fans players of the season, the centre position is nailed on. Arise Paul Williams, another of the glorious Sharks alumni. An absolute man-mountain under the basket, he is without peer when it comes to the defensive rebound or the consistent tip-in that so often goes un-noticed when a team is excelling as the Raiders have done all season. Would I have him back at the Sharks?…in a heartbeat! No-one else has come near in the 2011-12 season.
