BBL Preview: Riders at Phoenix – 13 October 2013
For Cheshire Phoenix, Friday’s disappointment at losing out to league leaders Worcester in overtime can be turned on its head and used as some drive knowing that, finally, they can be competitive with those expected to bring home silverware this year.
Riders’ coach Rob Paternostro will be fully aware of what John Lavery’s men can do, despite the number of newcomers within the Phoenix side.
Historically, these games have always produced a tight result, so expect more of the same in the way this one will play out. Yannick Crowder will be hoping for more of the same out of last week’s victory over Giants, plenty of boards and a few blocks to boot.
Reggie Middleton, who is averaging 20 points a game for the home side, will again be looking to make hay whilst the sun shines (however it’s not been the best of days in Chester for the weather).
The synergy of Leicester Riders will no doubt be put to the test, and all eyes will be upon Jay Couisnard and Rashad Hassan as they look to put the points on the board.
However, it will be the work of GB’s Olympic star, Drew Sullivan, that could change the game. With the minutes put together so far this season, and his subsequent work rate, will he be able to break into double-double territory at the Northgate Arena for the first time this season?
As previously noted, the records show the winner rarely takes away a healthy winning margin, so expect a close game – however with the state of results so far in the league, anything really could happen.
