BBL Team of the week – week 7
The line-up for Week 7 boasts no fewer than four new faces who take their place in our starting five for the very first time this season.
Richie Gordon (Worcester Wolves)
Worcester Wolves forward Richie Gordon has been at the heart of a strong start to the season for Paul James and his team who are yet to taste defeat in the BBL Championship and thanks in part to Gordon, are in the last four of the BBL Cup. He came up with a monstrous double-double of 27 points and 15 rebounds against Mersey Tigers in the quarter-finals. It was the best performance of the week by some distance, achieving an impressive performance valuation of 35.
Mychal Green (Glasgow Rocks)
It was a truly stellar weekend for the guard who grabs his first spot after stepping up big time for the Rocks in the absence of injured backcourt partner EJ Harrison. While his superlative display at Sport Central wasn’t quite enough to propel his team past the Eagles and into the last four of the BBL Cup, he turned on the style again 48 hours later to help put title rivals One Health Sharks Sheffield to the sword. Green racked up 23 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists as his team bounced back from Cup disappointment to re-assert their position as genuine BBL Championship contenders.
Sherrad Prezzie-Blue (Worcester Wolves)
While it’s a first spot of the new campaign for the guard, he’s no stranger to our BBL Team of The Week since he made a number of appearances while playing for former club Worthing Thunder. Now with the Wolves, Prezzie-Blue helped them move to within 40 minutes of a first appearance at a showpiece BBL final as Worcester booked a semi-final spot in the Cup after an impressive win at Mersey Tigers. The guard had 23 points including four triples while also adding five rebounds and two steals. Most impressively of all, he only just missed out on what would have been a fantastic double-double by one assist.
Ayron Hardy (Jelson Homes DMU Leicester Riders)
The one player in the starting five this week with prior experience of being in the team this season, it’s hardly a surprise the in-form forward is back. Having already scooped the Molten BBL Player Of The Month Award for October, Hardy is absolutely flying and this week’s place was courtesy of a powerful display against Cheshire Jets as Riders cruised into the BBL Cup semi-finals. Hardy conjured up a typically impressive and efficient double-double and was not a million miles away from a triple double since he also racked up 7 assists to add to his 15 points and 10 rebounds. Meanwhile to further underline his all -round importance at both ends of the floor, the forward also came up with five steals.
Jamell Anderson (Jelson Homes DMU Leicester Riders)
While the trio of Ayron Hardy, Drew Sullivan and Cameron Rundles have been taking all of the headlines in recent weeks, we can add a new name to the ever growing list of Riders players in top form. Jamell Anderson had a superb game for Riders in the win at Northgate against Jets in the BBL Cup quarter-finals. He came up with a brilliantly efficient six of seven in the paint helping him rack up 13 points while only missed out on a double-double by one rebound. This didn’t detract from his tireless work on the glass and in addition to his 9 boards, he also harvested four steals.
Off The Bench – Andrew Sullivan (Jelson Homes DMU Leicester Riders), Cameron Rundles (Jelson Homes DMU Leicester Riders), Tommy Freeman (Worcester Wolves), Ralph Bucci (Durham Wildcats), Bill Cole (Cheshire Jets)
