BBL team of the week – week 8
There’s a sense of déjà vu about our line-up for Week 8 which includes the same backcourt pairing as last week and a familiar face who makes his fourth appearance of the season – more than any other player to date.
Mychal Green (Glasgow Rocks)
The Rocks guard partners Prezzie-Blue once again in the backcourt and he’s still on fire. Indeed ever since EJ Harrison went down injured for Rocks, Green has thrived on the added responsibility. Last weekend he posted one of the highest performance valuation scores of the season after pouring in 35 points in the win at Newton Aycliffe against Durham Wildcats. He was in sensational shooting form all over the floor making 7 of 10 inside, 4 of 6 from outside and 9 of his 10 free-throws to inspire his team to the win. Just for good measure he also harvested 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals and only spilled the ball once in the game.
Sherrad Prezzie-Blue (Worcester Wolves)
The guard returns to our starting five again after helping his team preserve their unbeaten start in the BBL Championship in the thrilling home victory against UCP Marjon Plymouth Raiders. Prezzie-Blue racked up 24 points with half of that tally coming from downtown. He was perfect from the line and also added 6 rebounds and 5 assists in a vital contribution which keeps his team on a real roll as they look to make the rest of the league sit up and take notice at the top of the standings.
Ayron Hardy (Jelson Homes DMU Leicester Riders)
He has been the player of the season so far without doubt as he makes out team for a fourth time this campaign and we’re running out of superlatives for Hardy who was also the Molten BBL Player Of The Month For October. At this rate, he will be in with a shout of grabbing the November accolade too since his blistering form continues to propel the Riders who are undefeated in the league. His greatest strength is that he is just as effective at both ends of the floor and continues to be the ‘X Factor’. He registered 18 points in the road win at One Health Sharks Sheffield which resigned the hosts to their worst ever start to a league season. Much of his best work came defensively where he came up with four big steals and seven rebounds.
Tommy Freeman (Worcester Wolves)
It’s a debut appearance for Tommy Freeman who has played his part in helping his team achieve their best ever start to a BBL season. That record was extended from three games to five after last weekend and it was against Mersey Tigers where Freeman did the damage to help his team rack up a huge victory and their fourth straight win in the league and seventh in all competitions. He claimed 27 points including five three-pointers and ten free-throws but just missed out on a double-double by one rebound.
Lehmon Colbert (UCP Marjon Plymouth Raiders)
While his team had to stomach a gut wrenching loss to Worcester Wolves at the weekend, Lehmon Colbert helped his team secure their first league win of the season in the midweek clash with Prestige Homes MK Lions. The big man collected a double-double of 25 points and 10 rebounds while also showing he can make an outside shot by sinking a couple of triples. This is the second time Colbert has made the BBL Team Of The Week this season.
Off The Bench – Andrew Sullivan (Jelson Homes DMU Leicester Riders), Darius Defoe (Newcastle Eagles), Justin Dobbins (One Health Sharks Sheffield), Mike Tuck (One Health Sharks Sheffield), Ralph Bucci (Durham Wildcats), Howard Crawford (Prestige Homes MK Lions)
