Boucher standing tall for Stingrays
Excel Hull Stingrays player-coach Sylvain Cloutier has highlighted the important role goaltender Christian Boucher played in the 3-2 win over Fife Flyers at Hull Arena in the Rapid Solicitors Elite League on Sunday.
The Canadian, in his second season with Stingrays, backstopped the team to their first victory of the campaign with some vital late saves in regulation time.
Boucher then came up big with several stops in the shoot-out before Dmitry Rodin secured the extra point for Stingrays in the third round of penalty shots.
Cloutier has also called for an improvement in his side’s play following a disappointing performance against Flyers despite registering the win.
He said: “We left Bouch stranded again. We have been leaving him stranded for two weeks. He made some big saves for us and if it wasn’t for him we could have lost that game.
“We need everyone to win games and we will remind them of that this week. It’s going to be a tough week. The guys need to start buying into the system. We will go to work this week, go back to the drawing board and start over.
“You can’t just turn up and play. It’s a team game and that is the only way we are going to win games.”
