Three first period goals from the Devils set them up for their first win in the league and at the same time helped knock Sheffield off the top.

Phil Hill netted two of the goals and is now just one goal short of 100 career EIHL goals in all competitions. Not to be outdone by Hill – Stevie Lyle picked up an impressive shutout as he stopped all 34 shots on him.

Cardiff opened the scoring with a powerplay goal from Phil Hill at 3.05 he then added a second at 12.22. The home side then got a third goal with a 5 on 3 powerplay at 19.46 with Jeff Pierce being on target.

After a goalless second period, Brad Voth netted the only goal of the third at 43.01 to complete the scoring and to give the Devils their first league win of the season.
