Cats complete challenge double
The Swindon Wildcats took the trip to the midlands to take on a Telford Tigers side, just 24 hours after earning a win against the team on home ice.
As at home the Wildcats were quick to pounce on that first goal, tucking away a scrambled effort which had to be given by the goal judge and then consequently awarded to forward Nicky Watt.
Jaroslav Cesky then doubled the lead moments later, converting on a quick move up the ice and putting a second on the board for his side.
Despite the ‘Cats being given a penalty just minutes before the end of the period, Cesky put away a third for Swindon scoring on a good counter attack move.
Seeing somewhat of a repeat from the game before, Telford came out to the second with a more solid tactic, subsequently earning them a goal in the process. Tigers’ Senko would finish a play just moments into the period to give the home crowd a boost as the second continued on. However, at the half way mark, Jaroslav Cesky then collected his hat trick as he netted the ‘Cats fourth and returned the sides’ gap to a three goal lead.
Again despite being shorthanded just a minute on, Swindon would then earn a fifth as popular import Jonas Höög then scored his first of the new campaign to get his season underway. It was clear Telford had tightened up, as they saw the period out having just let in the two goals to their one.
This improvement to the home side continued as the former Wildcat Hornak then scored a second for the Tigers to open the period and leave the scores at 5-2. However, the boost was short lived as young Swindon forward Loris Taylor then earned his first goal of the season, having converted for the ‘Cats sixth and what looked to be a defining goal in the game.
The Wildcats were not quite finished as forward Lee Richardson then closed out the game with a final and seventh goal, and as the final buzzer sounded, a win was taken by the travelling Swindon side.
These back-to-back wins against a Telford side will now be taken forward to the final challenge game this Wednesday at the Slough Jets, before then getting the new season underway on Friday night.
Final Score: Telford Tigers 2 – 7 Swindon Wildcats
Man of the Match: TEL – Bruce / SWI – Cesky
