Cheshire @ Wolves: BBL Championship Preview

The Cheshire franchise come up against a toughened Worcester Wolves side having won just two of their first seven games this season. The franchise is currently being managed by the BBL for the time being, however, this week has moved forward to try to secure the future of the team.

Supporters, with the help of Andrew Donaldson and Terry Hearfield, directors at BiG Storage and Aspect Construction respectively, have gone on a media blitz trying to generate interest for potential investment, through print, online and broadcast outlets. SaveTheJets.co.uk, @SaveTheJets on Twitter, and Save Jets Basketball on Facebook, have all been set up, and the team also featured on regional ITV News programming.

Ahead of the game, player-coach Chez Marks said: “The Wolves are a very good team. The last time we played them, they executed very well, had great team chemistry and knocked down the open shots.

“Together everyone is on top of their game and that was why it is so hard to beat them. They are good at every position.”

The Worcester Wolves have also had a stroke of bad luck, Coach Paul James told the Worcester News, that his side’s performance this weekend was “unacceptable” after two successive losses to the Newcastle Eagles in the BBL Cup and the close defeat to the Glasgow Rocks in the BBL Championship just two days later.

Despite the off court issues, on court, the visitors to Worcester could be a handful: “I think that Cheshire are a team with some quality players and have shown lately that they can be very competitive this season.

“Shawn Myers and Chez Marks are the two key players and if they have the kind of game they are capable of, they make Cheshire a tough team to play.”

Coach James and the Wolves will be hoping the return of their starting point guard Sherrad Prezzie-Blue can provide the necessary boost to get a win and push them over the .500 mark.

Prezzie-Blue, who usually starts at the point guard position for the club has been stuck in America waiting for paperwork to be processed and has missed his side’s first 11 games. Superstorm Sandy also took an effect, preventing him from submitting his passport application in New York. He is not guaranteed for the game, but told the BBC Hereford and Worcester in a radio interview that he would likely get his Tier 5 Visa either Wednesday or Thursday this past week and be on the first plane back to England.
