Christmas with BBL player…Jorge Calvo
‘Christmas is here! Christmas is here! There’s reason to cheer! There’s reason to cheer!’ And over at BBL.org.uk, they’ve spoken to a collection of BBL stars from around the league about a range of festive-holiday topics from: where they will be spending Christmas, to what they’d get their coach for Christmas.
UKASF.com has access to the full interviews with each player and over the coming days, will be posting them for your enjoyment.
Here is…Jelson Homes DMU Leicester Riders Spanish point guard, Jorge Calvo.
How will you be spending the Christmas period this year?
I´m lucky because I can go home for Christmas. I´m going to be in Spain between 17th and 26th, so I´m going to spend the Christmas period with my family.
What’s your favourite thing about Christmas?
My favourite thing is binge with all my family and friends and enjoying the great Christmas meals. I really love some of the meals that my Grandmother cooks.
It doesn’t matter whether you were a child or an adult; what’s been your best ever Christmas present?
When I was 5 years old I received drums. At the beginning, everybody in my family was happy about that but after a couple of minutes of playing the drums, everybody thought that it had been a really bad idea, hehe. But they had luck; the next day I was playing the drums like a rock star and broke them. Maybe it has not been the best ever present but it is one of the best remembered for me and my family.
What presents have you asked for this year?
Actually this year I haven´t asked for presents yet. Anyway I love the surprises, so maybe this year I will wait for a surprise.
What do you enjoy more: the giving or receiving?
I would say the giving. I always try to surprise with the present and I enjoy looking for something special.
Any Christmas traditions you’d like to share?
I always go with my friends to have dinner before Christmas day. That dinner is special. Sometimes some of us dress up like Santa and Santa´s wife and that is quite funny. We will see who is going to be Santa´s wife this year.
If you had to get your coach a Christmas present, what would it be?
Maybe a new whiteboard because his whiteboard can be broken in any moment when he gets mad because of us, hehe! And a couple of new pens – I bet you that he already broke more than one at this time of the season.
And finally, what is your Christmas wish for the rest of the BBL season?
I think that if you share a wish then it doesn’t come true, so I am going to wait until after the BBL Cup Final or after the BBL play-off final to tell you my wish.
