Clan 6 Stingrays 1

Excel Hull Stingrays’ final away game in the EIHL regular season ended in a 6-1 defeat to Braehead Clan. Stingrays were once again without Craig Mitchell and Matti Uusivirta through injury and Aivars Gaisins and Ryan Lake (work commitments).

After a scoreless first period, Stingrays conceded three times in the first five minutes of the second session with Jon Landry (powerplay), Bobby Chaumont and Brendan Cook netting for Clan, the 20-20 Aladdin Cup winners. Jozef Sladok (Stingrays) and Clan player-coach Bruce Richardson were then ejected following a scuffle.

Cook scored again midway through the game before completing his hat-trick on the powerplay just 22 seconds into the final period. Vince Connon made it 6-0 before captain Kurtis Dulle prevented Stingrays from being shut-out when he was on target with four minutes remaining. Player-coach Sylvain Cloutier said: “We played a great first period and kept it simple. We were also doing a great job on the powerplay at the start of the second until Landry scored and then the wheels fell off.

“We then lost Slads and Silver [Jason Silverthorn] had to play most of the game on D’. We were only playing two lines but we kept going and got the goal at the end. “We will now have Wednesday off and get back to work on Thursday and prepare for two big home games at the weekend before the Elite League play-offs.”
