Colbert on discovering what Belfast has to offer

Will Colbert, man of the match after the clash with Braehead Clan, gave UKAmericanSportsFans.com an insight to his first thoughts on heading over to Europe, specifically Belfast, finding out a little more about the country, as well as his first few weeks in the EIHL.

“When my agent talked to me about coming overseas to Europe I was excited. However they mentioned Belfast, whilst I knew about their rugby teams and even football outfits, I had to admit I was a bit unsure about ice hockey.

“However the players’ network is a great place to find out what its really like and I only got good reports on how professional the team was followed by what a great city Belfast was.

“The best part about coming overseas is landing in a place where English is their first language. My team-mates are starting to gel with seven new imports integrating with the indigenous squad which takes a few weeks to start to feel comfortable, which I now am.

“I’m discovering Belfast historically by visiting different sites of interest and hoping to get the lay of the land when my folks come over to visit. The Odyssey Arena or Fortress Odyssey, which I’m told it’s called, is a great venue for home and visiting fans to watch a game from.

“I’ve played professional hockey since 2009/10 with teams like Kalamazoo Wings, Gwinnett Gladiators in the East Coast Hockey League. As well for Worcester Sharks and Chicago Wolves in the AHL.

“They all have larger arenas but their fans base doesn’t seem as big or voluble as the Giants supporters which I’m told will grow in numbers even further as the season gains momentum.

“I’m happy to be here and as a “Dman” its always great to get on the score board which I achieved twice over the week, which were my first two scores in the Elite League.”
