Cook gets thrown into the mix at Sharks
One Health Sharks Sheffield are now closed for business as far as their pre-season recruitment is concerned with the signing of forward Da’Quan Cook.
Cook comes highly recommended to the club by former Sharks forward Paul Williams, who attended the same university, St Bonaventure.
Hailing from Elizabeth, New Jersey, the 25-year-old had an impressive end to his career with the Bonnies, averaging 7.6 points per game with 4.6 rebounds in 2011-12, but has also had spells with Hyeres-Toulon in France and Tundja Yambol in Bulgaria.
Sharks Director, Steve Shore, feels the team are now well prepared for the season ahead: “We are delighted to have secured the signing of Da’Quan for this year. He is the final piece of the jigsaw that Atiba Lyons has put together and we are confident that he will add another dimension to the roster with his height and athleticism under the basket. We still have one more permit spot available to us, should Atiba need to strengthen the squad during the season.”
Cook, who stands at 6′ 8″, will add height to the Sharks’ roster, and will join up with his new side this week and get ready for the 2013-14 BBL season, in which they will look to build upon last year’s BBL Trophy winning campaign.
The Sharks began their pre-season on Saturday with a 93-77 win away at Manchester Magic. Captain Mike Tuck led the scorers with 23 points and 9 rebounds. This Saturday sees the Sharks play in a charity match against BBL rivals, London Lions at Fleming Park, Eastleigh, in support of Liver and Pancreatic Cancer Research and Detection.
The Sharks open their BBL Championship campaign at the English Institute of Sport on Friday 27th September with a game against old rivals, Cheshire Phoenix.
