Coventry Jets secure derby victory over Bulls
The first round of the ‘Battle of the West Midlands’ saw the Coventry Jets take home the bragging rights over Birmingham Bulls with a 20-0 win in Premiership North.
The afternoon started badly for the Jets when stand-out linebacker Oli Campbell picked up an injury during the warm up, which put him on the bench for the rest of the day.
Despite the loss of Campbell, the defense put on terrific display, keeping the Bulls scoreless and adding an interception return for a touchdown, courtesy of Elliot Strong who also added the conversion; added to that they recorded a number of turnovers.
The offence had a good day at the office with quarterback Fraser Oliver hooking up with receiver Noach Ben-Haim for two touchdowns, Strong kicking one of the points after, bringing his tally for the day to eight. Despite what the scoreline might suggest it was a very tight physical battle between these two ‘old enemies’.
Round two of the ‘Battle of the West Midlands’ takes place at Sphinx Sports and Social Club on Sunday 30th June kicking off at 2:30pm, with a definite feeling in the air that the Bulls will come to town with revenge firmly in the forefront of their collective mind.
