Durant extends Guildford stay
Shaun Durant’s week-long contract with Guildford Heat has been extended. Following strong performances in a short space of time, the highly experienced centre has been signed by Guildford Heat for the rest of the season.
Having had just one training session with the team, 6’8″ London-born Durant was thrown into the deep-end when he made his debut against the Leicester Riders before playing the following day against Milton Keynes Lions. He made his presence felt on both the offensive and defensive ends.
In the friendly against the LSBU Brixton Topcats last weekend, he combined well with fellow new signing, Mike Copeland and with Heat captain, Mike Martin. Durant finished the game as the leading rebounder, pulling down 12 boards in just 22 minutes of action.
Shaun Durant has a strong track record in the BBL. Of his three full seasons in the BBL, Shaun led the BBL in rebounding (11.2 rebounds per game) while with the Wolves and was second in rebounding (9.4 rpg) last season with the Worthing Thunder.
Head coach, Creon Raftopoulos commented, “I am really excited that we have agreed a deal with Shaun. He will bring a lot of help in the low post. The combination of Shaun Durant, Mike Martin and Mike Copeland gives us a very strong three man rotation at the forward position. In the short time he has been with Guildford Heat, I have been impressed with his work ethic and commitment to helping us to get the Heat back on track.”
Guildford Heat’s next home game, which will be televised for Sky TV, is on Sunday 4 December at 3pm at Surrey Sports Park against Worcester Wolves.
