EIHL Game Day Summary: Steelers 4 Clan 5 ( won shootout)

The Sheffield Steelers welcomed former hero Ryan Finnerty back to the Arena tonight, as his Braehead Clan travelled to South Yorkshire to take on Doug Christiansen’s men in the Elite League. It would prove a happy trip for the Clan, who came out as penalty shootout winners after regulation finished tied at 4-4.

Finnerty couldn’t have wished for a better start to his homecoming party, with his Clan finding themselves two goals up at the end of the first period. A well worked Shane Lust goal and a powerful solo strike from Scott Aarssen giving the visitors the advantage.

The second period proved much more productive for the Steelers, who pulled a goal back early on through Jeff Legue, only to see the Clan re-establish their lead minutes later thanks to Shane Lust.
From then though the Steelers attacked with real purpose, and were level by the end of the period as Robert Dowd and Dustin Kohn each notched to make the score 3-3 going in to the 3rd.

Sixty minutes though wouldn’t be enough to separate the two sides, and overtime was required despite each team adding a goal to make it 4-4 after regulation.  Added time still wasn’t enough and the fans were treated to a penalty shootout, with Braehead taking their shots clinically, and needing only two to seal the game and take the points.
