EIHL Preview: Stars at Steelers – 9 October 2013
Fresh from their hard fought overtime win over the Coventry Blaze on Saturday, the Sheffield Steelers welcome the table topping Dundee Stars to Ice Sheffield on Wednesday, in their first Elite League game in almost three weeks.
The Steelers will be hoping for one big addition to their line up from Saturday, as superstar British forward Robert Dowd is expected to return having pulled out in the warm ups before Saturday’s game due to injury. Dowd, who has reportedly been nursing the niggle for a number of weeks, joins the likes of Saturday’s scorers Jeff Legue and Steven Goertzen in a Steelers forward group which has been impressive of late, having regrouped after losing top scorer Maxime Lacroix to injury.
The Steelers, who sit seventh in the Elite League, will be chomping at the bit to make up ground on their rivals at the top of the division, after playing only three league games all season due to a wave of Challenge Cup fixtures.
Dundee meanwhile are continuing to shock the EIHL world with their impressive start to the campaign. The Stars, who have won seven of their nine league games already this season, continued their run this weekend, with back to back victories over the Hull Stingrays.
Having beaten the Steelers once already at home, the Stars come to Sheffield not only full of confidence, but as the form team of the EIHL, with Wednesday night representing a chance to add another big scalp to their already extensive collection, as the Steelers will be look to kick start the league assault expected of them coming into the season.
