Fife Flyers 2 Nottingham Panthers 6

Flyers tough start to their inaugural Elite League season continued as they went down at home against fancied Panthers but at least the home side broke their scoring duck with their first Elite League goals.

Flyers were very much giving as much as they were getting during an exciting opening period but they succumbed to a Jeff Heerema strike on the powerplay with only 29 seconds remaining in the session.

Jordan Fox quickly shot Panthers 2-0 ahead at 21.42 but the old Rosslyn Street rink was rocking at 22.22 as on his debut Mike Hamilton notched that first Flyers EIHL goal. Panthers refused to get caught up in that atmosphere however, with David Clarke at 30.06, Matthew Myers at 35.00 and Clarke again at 37.19 had the visitors 5-1 ahead by the second period break.

Panthers were always comfortable from that point on and although Marc Fowley pulled one back for Flyers at 51.32 the last word came from Robert Lachowicz as he added Panthers’ sixth of the night at 56.35.
