Fife Flyers Back in the Big Time

The Elite League Back at 10 – Stovies Back on the Menu

One of the truly great names in British Ice Hockey is back at the top level of the sport. At a Board meeting of the EIHL on Thursday it was agreed that the Fife Flyers would become the 10th team participation in the 9th season of the league.

Fife will join fellow Scottish sides Braehead, Dundee and Edinburgh alongside Belfast, Cardiff, Coventry, Hull, Nottingham and Sheffield when the season commences on Saturday 3rd September.

EIHL Chairman Eamon Convery said “It has been a long time coming but we are delighted to welcome the Flyers into our league. Fife remain one of the biggest names in our sport. Their inclusion in the Elite League enhances the top level of our sport and certainly creates a huge rivalry north of the border.

”Our view has always been that the Flyers belonged in the EIHL, and that we as a league needed the UK’s oldest established ice hockey team in our division.

Jack Wishart, Director of the Fife Flyers said “We are delighted to have been accepted to join the EIHL. We have monitored the league’s development over the years especially here in Scotland with Braehead, Dundee and Edinburgh

”We felt that this was the right time to join the league. At the end it was a mutual coming together and one we hope benefits both the Flyers and the other member clubs

”We are also delighted for our fans. We know that they are keen to see the best teams’ in the UK at Kirkcaldy and to renew old rivalries with many clubs both in Scotland and South of the border.
