Freeman unlikely to return says James

Worcester Wolves have given the strongest signal yet that Tommy Freeman is off to pastures new.

Worcester and England Coach Paul James told Colin Taylor, the Wolves Press Officer “Tommy had an outstanding season for the Wolves. He made the BBL Team of the Week on multiple occasions and was then named as the best player in the entire league for February. To come straight out of college and make such an impact was quite an achievement and he has naturally attracted a lot of interest from other clubs.”

Taylor says in his report on the club’s facebook page that it looks unlikely that the star shooting guard will return.

The reason it looks ‘unlikely’ is because there has been no announcement that he has signed elsewhere, but obviously the club are resigned to the fact that Freeman won’t play in a Worcester uniform next season. BBL fans have grown used to this heartache as players continue to pass through the league as a stepping stone to Europe or other leagues where player salaries are higher.

The talent that we see on the courts of the UK though shows that scouting in the BBL is working well and particularly at Worcester with Freeman and Gordon brought in by James to impressive effect. Freeman was a very popular player and will be impossible to replace but having retained three of the starting five from last season with Jones and Watts still  in the mix, the future still looks very bright for Worcester basketball.

As we wait to see where Freeman goes, it was confirmed this week that Richie Gordon has signed for Swiss champions Lugano Tigers.
