Freeman’s Final Four are still dancing
WOW!!!!!! What a start to the tournament. So many upsets and low seeds advancing into the Sweet 16. So what that all my “sleeper” teams have been eliminated? I’ve had the chance to watch all the teams remaining at least once. Now I will give you some story lines and also teams to watch in their goal to reach the Final 4 next weekend.
I almost have to start with Florida Gulf Coast. They are the first 15 seed to ever reach the Sweet 16. This is only their second year of being able to qualify for the NCAA tournament as they are only in their 6th year of competing at the Division 1 level of college basketball. They play uptempo and loose. Their guards create turnovers and their bigs are surprisingly athletic. They will face their big brother school, University of Florida, with the hopes of advancing to Saturday to the Elite 8.
As Miami is set to take on Marquette, they will be without their big man, Reggie Johnson. The center suffered a lower extremity injury in their 2nd round victory over Illinois. His return is scheduled for the Final 4 should the Hurricanes advance to this stage. Marquette could provide trouble with their depth and tenacity that they compete with.
The biggest game of this round has to be the matchup between Kansas and Michigan. Both teams have spent time atop the national coaches poll. Trey Burke for Michigan had been hailed as the best guard in the nation. The Jayhawks looked unbeatable in the second half of their game against North Carolina. Regardless who wins many brackets are dependant on one of these two teams making it to the Final 4 or even the championship game.
Legendary coaches Krzyzewski and Izzo will square off as Duke will meet Michigan State in the Indianapolis regional. These are two of the top coaches in the college game. Their programs are in the top 25 every season. It will be a battle until the final horn to see who marches on.
Lastly, there are still 3 double digit seeds remaining in the tournament. 15 seed Florida Gulf Coast, 12 seed Oregon, and 13 seed LaSalle. Each will face a tough game in the next round but I believe out of these 3 that LaSalle has the best chance of moving on to the Elite 8.
My Final 4 is still intact so I will be touring for Kansas, Miami, Ohio State, and Louisville to win their regions and advance to Atlanta and the Final 4. Thanks for taking the time to take a peek and my thoughts. Hope you’ve enjoyed!
