Friday Night BBL Previews and betting
Four games tonight in the BBL Championship, all tipping off at 7:30pm, and we’re in for a clash of top half versus bottom half. Perhaps there are chances for major upsets or will it stay true to form?
Dave Bell gave a more in depth preview ahead of the Sharks and Raiders clash at the EIS tonight. For those that missed it – click here – to read it in full.
The pressure on Plymouth to not have four losses already before the end of this month will be circling in the minds of everyone associated with the Raiders if they are to still have a chance of winning the overall BBL Championship, but the semi-final BBL Cup visit of Newcastle on Sunday is also added into the mix.
Sheffield will be keen to claim a scalp, but with the Cup also being a competition they are in contention for, it is a difficult one to call.
Sheffield/Plymouth (HT/FT) – 9/2 @ William Hill
Newcastle welcome to Sport Central the Cheshire franchise, who are still technically named just ‘Cheshire’ for the next week, but are hoped to be known as ‘Cheshire Phoenix’ in the very near future to supporters following a vote last week.
Following the comedown from a much debated end to proceedings last Sunday at Northgate Arena, the visitors are hoping to carry on that momentum facing the first of two North East sides this weekend.
Eagles will hope to ease their way into the weekend in preparation for the trip down to Plymouth, but still need to keep the pressure on Leicester Riders. With Cheshire hoping to promote themselves in the best way possible to find last-minute sponsors, they will be no doubt of them putting up a spirited and determined effort, however, this could be the best way also for Newcastle to go into Sunday brimming with confidence.
Eagles win by 7-9 – 15/2 @ William Hill
Mersey Tigers take on Surrey Heat at home, and after a disappointing 79-40 loss to Riders last Saturday, it is again another challenge for Tony Walsh’s team against a side who were very quiet in terms of business leading into the season, but have burst on to the scene and are sat third in the Championship.
No doubt Mersey will have regrouped to get back on track and try to secure that first league victory, but with Surrey smarting from a close defeat against Glasgow last Sunday, they will want to get back to winning ways themselves. Mersey almost sprung a surprise against Sheffield had it not been for particular calls given, and I have grown a particular liking to Tigers (I shouldn’t say that as Cheshire beat writer – it’s almost blasphemy!) but perhaps the same scenario lies before them here as two weeks ago.
Mersey/Surrey (HT/FT) – 15/2 @ William Hill
Finally, the featured Sky Sports game, where Worcester Wolves face up to London Lions, and with Cheshire now reinvigorated after their loss against them last month as well as other teams breathing down their necks, Vince Macauley’s men need to realise that they need to start winning games in order to secure a play-off place come April.
Vitally important too for Wolves as a victory could help boost them in to a commanding play-off position towards the end of the campaign, and with plenty of time off since their last game nearly a fortnight ago, they will want to get back in to the swing of things, against a hit and miss side this season.
London Lions – 31/21 @ 188Bet
