Game On!

The BBL and EIHL are both nicely set up for an exciting climax as the UK experiences its own March Madness. If you want to take in a game this weekend, here are your choices.

Friday March 11

BBL

Mersey Tigers v Worthing Thunder – On current form you should see the Tigers celebrate their trophy win last weekend in style tonight as they take down  the lowly Thunder at Birchwood in Warrington (WA3 7PT). But every win is hard fought in the BBL and the Thunder are coming to spoil the party. The game tips-off at 7:30pm and entrance is £10 for adults and £5 for children. The Tigers are currently third in the championship with games in hand of the teams above them.

Newcastle Eagles v Worcester Wolves – The Wolves have picked-up points of late which has changed the complexion of their season as far as table position goes. The Worcester side are only four points off their league leading opponents, but they have played a whopping seven games more. A win against the Eagles on the road would be a big acheivement, and would take them above .500 for the season. Newcastle need the win to keep the Tigers, Cheshire Jets and Sheffield at arms length. This one also starts at 7:30pm at Sport Central at the University of Northumbria. Entrance is £12 adults and £6 children.

Sheffield Sharks v Leicester Riders – The aforementioned Sharks are in the mix at the top of the division, and both sides have hopes of earning a place in the playoffs. This is the second game the sides have played in the last seven days with the One Health Sharks winning the game in 86-79 a week ago. Marcus Stout has posted 50 points for Sheffield in his last two outings, with a 29 point haul against the MK Lions last time out. If you want to watch what should be a tight game between these two, the game will be played at the English Institue of Sport on Coleridge Road, Sheffield. For this 7:30pm tip-off, the tickets are priced at £9 for adults and £7 concessions.

EIHL

Edinburgh Capitals @ Belfast Giants – This one shouldn’t be too much fun for Capitals’ fans, but that is the story of their season. Edinburgh are rooted to the bottom of the table and have a gap of 11 points between them and the next team Newcastle Vipers. The Capitals have notched up just six wins from 49 and are unlikely to pose too much of a problem for the title chasing Giants in Belfast. The Irish outfit are just three points off leaders Sheffield and have a game in hand. The Giants’ fans will be expecting nothing less than a convincing win tonight. And the game does promise goals, so if you want to see the Giants and the Capitals in action get down to the Odyssey Arena  for 7pm. Tickets are £15 for adults and £8 for children.
