Get yer skates on!
Fancy trying your hand at Roller Derby? Never played a sport before? Don’t have any skates?
Fear not, in celebration of their 2nd birthday Nottingham’s Hellfire Harlots are opening their roller derby doors once more to new recruits.
Taking place at Djanogly City Academy, Gregory Boulevard, Nottingham on Tuesday 15 May at 7.00 pm the Harlots welcome people of all physical fitness and skating ability – all we ask is that you’re over 18 years old. At the moment, the Hellfire Harlots only invite women to play roller derby but men are welcome to come along to learn to skate and referee.
We will provide you with all the equipment you need; skates, protective gear and motivation to find out whether this exciting sport is for you.
New skater liaison Emma French (aka May K. Fist) commented today: “We are really excited to open our doors to new skaters again, as we can only do this a few times a year at the moment. Roller derby is a fantastic way to meet new people from all walks of life – we have members from across the region aged between 18 and 54. It’s a physically challenging and mentally exhilarating sport but a great way to get fit and be part of a tight-knit community where everybody supports one another.
In just two years, the Hellfire Harlots have grown from a team of 8 skaters to a 60 person-strong league that has won awards, sent one of their skaters to play for England in the first Roller Derby World Cup in Toronto, works with charities such as the Nottingham Women’s Centre and has signed a sponsorship deal with Sailor Jerry rum.
