Gill Returns For Lions

Stefan Gill has become Mike New’s first signing to his Milton Keynes Lions roster ahead of the 2011/12 season.

The 5’10” English point guard was voted the best player in English Division One two seasons ago and in his first year in the BBL for the Lions last term, solidified his reputation as one of the quickest players at the highest level.

Gill, 27, is a graduate of the University of Bolton, he had a spell in the Danish top league averaging 10 points a game and his 23 points and just shy of 5 assists a game in EBL Division One converted to 13.4 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists whilst shooting 43% from the field and a very healthy 37% from the three point line.

Lions’ Head Coach Mike New commented, “I am delighted to return Stefan, we knew about him and his athletic ability but this past season he really stepped up at the top level, after a slow start a couple of 40 point performances showed he was at this level offensively, now he is just maturing and will become a Premier player”.

The Moss-Side born guard became a regular in the England National Team for Coach Paul James, and whilst in his first BBL season he forced himself onto the starting five and his progress has been pleasing for the whole club, Lions Chief Executive, Vince Macaulay added, “It is not surprising that Mike’s first signing is Steff, we pride ourselves in bringing young players to the fore, what Mike has done with the Academy has been great and we intend to bring more exciting young players to the club, Steff was averaging 27 minutes a game and is a beacon for other English players as far as their ability to step into our top League and be professional in all that they do”

The Lion’s first home game of the new season sees them entertain the Leicester Riders on Friday 7th  October (tip-off 7.30pm), before that the squad will face Stony Brook University from New York at the MK Lions Arena on Thursday the 18th of August, tickets are on sale now online for just £8 flat.
